I was just informed by Landmark West that the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission has postponed the Broadway & 104th St Automat designation hearing to December 12, 2006. Please paste the above Automat-related links into your browser & still sign the petition. For the most up to date information, please contact [email protected] and feel free to write or carbon copy me as well.

One of the best ways to preserve memories of the Automat and their legacy is to advocate for landmark status. GOOD NEWS...There will be a public Landmarks hearing on October 17th for one of the last standing (former) Automats on Broadway & W 104th St, NYC. As for its future, your help is integral in preventing it from being demolished. This is a rare gem, & their low-rise presence makes the Automat vulnerable to demolition and redevelopment.

To sign an online petition, please follow:

www.petitiononline.com/Automat/petition.html

For preservation advocacy group, Landmark West's recommended actions you can take, a background on the Automat, photos, contacts, and the latest landmarks hearing information, please access:

www.landmarkwest.org/advocacy/automat.html

If you can encourage your friends to take the recommended actions, sign & forward the petition link, and testify at the 10/17 hearing, you will be a huge help towards the preservation of a classic NYC architectural, cultural, & social institution. Thanking you in advance!
